Job Description

The Head of Quality Control will oversee the entire Quality Control (QC) function for a powder detergent manufacturing plant. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the quality control team, ensuring product quality standards are met, and driving continuous improvements in quality processes.

The plant has a production capacity of 125 Metric Tons Per Day (MTPD). This role demands an experienced professional with in-depth knowledge of detergent production processes and quality control best practices.

A key part of this role will be to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations, implement corrective actions when required, and lead a team focused on achieving high standards of product quality, consistency, and safety.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Leadership of Quality Control Operations:

    • Lead and manage the quality control department for a large-scale powder detergent production plant.
    • Oversee the day-to-day QC activities, ensuring that all products meet the required quality standards.
    • Develop and enforce quality control policies and procedures, ensuring adherence to company and industry standards.
    • Lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of all quality systems, ensuring product quality consistency.
  2. Process Improvement & Optimization:

    • Continuously monitor and improve production processes to optimize product quality, cost, and efficiency.
    • Identify root causes of quality issues and implement corrective and preventive actions to mitigate risks.
    • Drive lean manufacturing and Six Sigma initiatives to enhance operational performance and maintain high-quality standards.
  3. Team Leadership & Development:

    • Manage and mentor a team of quality control professionals, ensuring their continuous development and alignment with organizational goals.
    • Establish and monitor KPIs for the quality control team to ensure effective performance and accountability.
    • Promote a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the QC team.
  4. Quality Assurance and Compliance:

    • Ensure strict compliance with regulatory requirements, including safety, environmental, and quality regulations specific to the detergent industry.
    • Conduct regular audits, inspections, and quality assessments to maintain quality certifications.
    • Lead the implementation of corrective actions in response to audit findings or customer complaints.
  5. Collaboration with Production and R&D:

    • Collaborate with the production and R&D teams to align quality expectations and improve product formulations.
    • Assist in troubleshooting production issues related to quality and collaborate with engineering teams for process enhancements.
    • Provide technical expertise in raw material selection and formulation development to ensure high-quality production.
  6. Data Management & Reporting:

    • Utilize SAP and MS Office tools to manage and analyze quality control data.
    • Prepare and present detailed quality reports to senior management, highlighting key quality metrics and improvement initiatives.
    • Maintain accurate records of quality testing, including results, non-conformance reports, and corrective actions taken.

Skill & Experience

  1. Educational Background:

    • A Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field is required.
    • A Master’s Degree in a relevant discipline is preferred.
  2. Industry Experience:

    • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in quality assurance/quality control within the detergent, FMCG, or chemical manufacturing industry.
    • Proven track record of leadership in a senior QC or quality management role.
    • Strong understanding of powder detergent manufacturing processes and raw material specifications.
    • Expertise in setting up and managing quality systems to ensure production quality at scale.
  3. Technical Skills:

    • In-depth knowledge of detergent production processes, including mixing, granulation, drying, and packaging.
    • Proficiency in the use of MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for reporting and data management.
    • Strong working knowledge of SAP for tracking and managing quality data.
  4. Leadership & Communication:

    • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to manage and motivate a diverse team.
    • Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with internal teams, suppliers, and customers.
    • Ability to influence and collaborate across departments to ensure product quality and operational excellence.
  5. Problem-Solving & Analytical Skills:

    • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to identify issues, analyze data, and propose actionable solutions.
    • Ability to handle complex quality control challenges, prioritize effectively, and implement solutions in a timely manner.
  6. Regulatory Knowledge:

    • Extensive understanding of regulatory requirements within the FMCG industry, particularly in the detergent and chemicals space.
    • Familiarity with international quality standards (e.g., ISO, GMP) and local regulatory bodies.
